The Marine Roadshow!

25th Mar 2026

As part of our work on the Green-Schools Water theme, we were delighted to welcome the Marine Roadshow on Tuesday, 24th March.

Children from 1st to 6th Class were fully engaged and enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Ireland’s marine environment in a hands-on and interactive way.

The children learned about a wide range of marine topics, including how tides are formed, symbiotic relationships between sea creatures, the harmful effects of plastics in the ocean and the fascinating way in which some marine creatures use echolocation. These important ideas helped the children to develop a greater understanding of the sea and the need to protect it.

One of the highlights of the visit was the chance to see native Irish marine species up close. Pupils were fascinated to observe creatures such as spider crabs, hermit crabs, sea anemones and blennies. They also had the opportunity to see and hold marine artefacts, including the upper skull of a bottlenose dolphin and part of a whale’s spine.

The Marine Roadshow helped to promote an appreciation of the natural world and inspired the children to think about how they can help care for our oceans.

We are very grateful to Dave Quinlan from the Marine Roadshow for bringing this wonderful experience to our school.
