Ballyheada Welcomes Para-Rowing Champion Tiarnán O'Donnell

6th Mar 2026

Pupils and staff were delighted and honoured to welcome Paralympic rower Tiarnán O’Donnell to the school today as part of the Dare to Believe Programme. Tiarnán was greeted with a wonderful guard of honour as pupils lined the yard waving Irish and Limerick flags, banners and Olympic mascots.

Tiarnán spoke to pupils from 4th to 6th class about the Olympic and Paralympic Games and shared his own inspiring journey to becoming a Paralympian, including the challenges he had to overcome along the way. His story of courage, resilience and determination left a lasting impression on everyone.

Afterwards, Tiarnán brought the pupils outside to the yard where he demonstrated some of the exercises he does as part of his training. All classes then had the opportunity to have their photograph taken with him and many pupils were thrilled to receive his autograph.

We would like to sincerely thank Tiarnán and the Dare to Believe Programme for such a memorable and inspiring visit. Mrs. Horgan was especially delighted to see so many Limerick flags in Ballyheada N.S. — and is hoping they might stay up for another few days!
