4th and 5th Class have been busy learning how to write and present debates. The motion for our debate was “Pupils should wear school uniforms.” Each team had three speakers — a captain to open the argument, a second speaker to build on the points and a third speaker to conclude and challenge the opposing team.
The children did a great job trying to persuade their audience, putting forward clear points and spotting weaknesses in the opposing team’s arguments.
Debating is a great way for pupils to build skills like researching, thinking critically, speaking confidently and responding respectfully — all skills that will help them long into the future.
